SUMMARY

​We are looking for a smart, driven, and detail-oriented Associate Buyer or Buyer who wants to build on their existing experience to help drive success on the business.  This person is responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to drive their category of business, oversee and develop a direct report, and execute tasks such as business analytics, assortment strategy, sourcing new vendors, product development, product set up, purchase orders, samples, and pricing in a timely and accurate fashion to maximize sales and help achieve financial objectives.  

The ideal candidate will have experience as an Associate Buyer or Buyer in e-commerce as well as a strong desire to gain the technical and practical knowledge required to develop a career in buying. You will work closely with all members of the Merchandising Team, and have exposure to all facets of the company including cross-functional partners in Operations, Marketing, Tech, and Design. Must have relevant experience in Tabletop. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the Director of Merchandising to create a clear strategic vision for your product categories that supports the overall objectives of Zola
  • Drive analytics and negotiations for business strategy and coop / comarketing contracts
  • Manage at least 1 direct report
  • Manage and grow your business against company sales and margin targets; identify and execute on profit maximizing opportunities
  • Forge relationships with new vendors (including outreach, pitches, etc.) and maintain strong relationships with existing vendors
  • Plan assortments and conduct periodic assortment and brand reviews
  • Conduct research and business analysis for merchandise assortments 
  • Recruit, develop and train merchandising assistants to grow the team and business
  • Partner closely with Operations and Planning to manage vendor operations, inventory and fulfillment
  • Contribute new business ideas for the growth of the business
  • Perform ongoing vendor development via market meetings, trade shows and market research
  • Manage online product content for Zola.com, including product descriptions, copy, and pricing. Build and maintain databases of product attribute data and pricing
  • Manage assortment plan and pull together all product set up information
  • Manage the product upload process for new vendors and for re-assortments, making sure product set up information as well as images are available in a timely manner so that products are ready to go live in a timely manner
  • Manage the purchase order process from end-to-end, including but not limited to entry, maintenance, and resolving issues
  • Pull reporting for sales, order tracking and other analyses. SQL knowledge is a plus

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Merchandising or quantitative/analytical major
  • Must have a background in the Tabletop business (Dinnerware, Serveware, Flatware, Glassware, Table Linens, Barware, etc)
  • Must have 5+ years of e-commerce experience 
  • Proven analytical and diagnostic skills
  • Proven management skills
  • Ability to adjust priorities and manage time wisely in a fast-paced environment
  • Results-oriented, with a strong sense of follow through
  • Ability to handle multiple demands while maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to be proactive in nature; resolves or appropriately escalates issues
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • MUST be systems-oriented & proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excel proficiency; advanced pivot table & vlookup experience a plus
  • Team player with a positive attitude 
  • Interest in startups and new businesses (experience in an early stage company a plus)
  • Strong product sensibility and demonstrated ability to identify emerging trends
  • Highly analytical with solid understanding of retail math and strong Excel skills
  • Experience with ongoing vendor relationship management, inventory management and assortment  planning
  • Strong team orientation, collaborative, cooperative work style
